Strategic Financial Advisor

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Financial Advisor to join a dynamic finance team within a large, complex public sector organisation. This role provides strategic financial advice, supports investment and budget planning, and contributes to business case development and capital asset management.

You will work across the organisation to integrate financial, performance, policy, and investment advice, providing data-driven insights to support decision-making, optimise resource use, and maximise return on investment.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct environmental scanning to identify strategic opportunities and business risks.
  • Analyse financial and non-financial data to inform investment planning and service design.
  • Support development of initiatives, including cost-benefit analysis and funding scenarios.
  • Prepare briefings, reports, and advice for senior leadership, external agencies, and Ministers.
  • Liaise with Treasury and other central agencies to meet Budget and reporting requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and support a high-performance culture.
Who You Are
  • Chartered accountant or equivalent, with a relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Policy, or Commerce.
  • Experienced in strategic analysis, financial modelling, and scenario planning.
  • Skilled in presenting complex information clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Able to take a broad, long-term view, identify opportunities, and develop practical solutions.
  • Familiarity with public sector processes, parliamentary procedures, and legislation is desirable.
  • Understanding of cross-cultural issues, including tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture.
