Ko wai te Pakihi nei | About the Organisation

Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is a regional vocational education provider with a clear purpose: to transform lives through vocational education.

EIT has its main campuses in Napier and Tairāwhiti, with additional sites in Auckland, Ruatoria, Wairoa, and Waipukurau, and delivers programmes and partnerships across the Pacific and China. Working alongside learners, whānau, iwi, employers, and communities, EIT focuses on building skills, confidence, and opportunity that support regional and community aspirations.

Ko te āhua o te tūranga | About the Role

As EIT transitions to an independent Institute of Technology and Polytechnic (ITP) from 1 January, we are seeking an experienced Director of Marketing and Communications to lead EIT’s brand, marketing, and communications function. This is a greenfields opportunity to shape the strategic direction, capability, and presence of marketing and communications across a multi-campus organisation, grounded in local leadership and place-based identity, and aligned to EIT’s future as a standalone tertiary provider.

This is a senior leadership role with end-to-end accountability for marketing, communications, and brand. The portfolio spans reputation, campaigns, media, engagement, digital, data, and internal communications, and requires a leader comfortable operating across channels and at scale.

Mōu | About You

You will lead an established team and partner closely with executive and regional leaders to deliver an integrated marketing and communications strategy that supports learner recruitment, enables clear and trusted relationships with stakeholders, and tells compelling stories about the impact of vocational education. The role spans corporate communications, brand and campaign leadership, and delivery across diverse audiences, geographies, and channels, working both above and below the line. It balances strategic leadership with strong digital, analytics, CRM, and content capability.

We are seeking depth of experience gained in complex organisations, ideally within education, public sector, or purpose-led environments. This opportunity may appeal to someone seeking to relocate to Hawke’s Bay or Tairāwhiti for a senior leadership role with genuine regional impact.

EIT values Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and learner-centred outcomes, and welcomes applications from leaders who can work confidently across diverse communities.

Applications close midnight Sunday 18 January 2026
