I’m partnering with a well-established NZ technology consultancy delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes for enterprise organisations across Aotearoa.
They’re looking for a Principal Cloud Architect to play a key role in shaping the architecture of a multi-year digital transformation programme for a global customer.
This is a senior architecture role where you’ll work closely with product squads, engineering leaders, and executive stakeholders to design Azure-first platforms, microservices architectures, and modern DevOps environments.

About the Role
You’ll act as the principal architect embedded within a major transformation programme, responsible for defining and guiding the architecture across multiple delivery streams.
This includes designing cloud-native solutions, helping teams adopt modern engineering practices, and ensuring platforms are scalable, resilient, and secure.
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and delivery teams to ensure architecture decisions align with long-term platform strategy.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading Azure-first architecture design across mission-critical platforms
- Designing microservices and event-driven architectures for scalable systems
- Defining API contracts, integration patterns, and domain-driven designs
- Promoting DevOps, GitOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Supporting application modernisation and cloud-native adoption
- Leading architecture workshops with stakeholders and engineering teams
- Providing technical governance across delivery streams
- Mentoring engineers and architects across the programme
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Strong experience designing cloud-native architectures on Microsoft Azure
- Experience building microservices or event-driven systems at scale
- Deep understanding of software architecture patterns (DDD, APIs, messaging)
- Strong grounding in cloud infrastructure, networking and security
- Experience guiding engineering teams across complex technical environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for executive audiences
Nice to Have
- Experience with DevSecOps, Zero Trust or FinOps practices
- Experience with AKS or container orchestration environments
- Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect or DevOps Expert
