Senior Product Designer (UX) with financial services (insurance) or SaaS experience?
Ready to lead the UX from the front? We’re seeking a senior, hands-on Product Designer (with a focus on UX) to set the direction for a high-priority digital initiative for a well-known New Zealand brand.
This is a contractor engagement where you’ll own discovery, shape journeys, and bring stakeholders with you.
The gig:
- Contract: 5.5 months (start ASAP), opportunity for extension
- Rate: Competitive hourly rate
- Location: Auckland CBD + hybrid (ideally in-office 2/3 days week for workshops)
- Context: First 5.5 months are all about delivering foundation UX; broader roadmap technology continues beyond that
- Holiday shutdown: Office closes Fri 19 Dec and reopens Wed 7 Jan (work schedules planned accordingly)
What you’ll lead (UX, not UI)
- Stakeholder engagement & facilitation: Run collaborative workshops with CX, Delivery, BA, Product, and Tech Leads; align quickly and maintain momentum.
- Journey mapping & flows: Define end-to-end experiences across purchase/policy and service journeys; set the standard the squad executes against.
- Lean research & validation: Rapid user research, usability testing, and heuristic reviews; balance rigour with speed.
- Data-informed decisions: Partner tightly with BA/Product to ground solutions in insights.
- Accessibility first: Champion inclusive design (WCAG 2.2) and pragmatic, implementable UX.
- Design system collaboration: Work within (and contribute to) an established system; produce clear artefacts for smooth handover to UI and engineering.
- Storytelling at pace: Present rationale to senior stakeholders; build confidence and alignment in a fast-moving environment.
You’ll bring:
- 6+ years in UX/Product Design delivering in complex digital environments/
- Outstanding stakeholder experience: You can influence at the leadership level and craft a compelling narrative.
- Insurance or financial services experience (ideal) or a strong SaaS product mindset that translates to regulated, data-rich contexts.
- Tooling: Figma + FigJam/Miro; familiarity with Jira/Confluence helpful.
- Autonomy & pace: You structure ambiguity, manage time like a pro, and land high-quality outcomes quickly.
- Portfolio: Up-to-date examples of journey work, problem framing, and impact (short, relevant case studies are perfect).
Why you’ll love it
- Impact from day one: Your UX direction sets the tone for a flagship initiative.
- Room to influence: Work closely with a Chapter Lead and a Head of CX who values great design.
- Clear runway: Deliver the foundation now, with more work mapped beyond the initial phase.
