Paemanu Director Legal, Risk and Compliance

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa

Ko te āhua o te tūranga | About the Role
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is one of Aotearoa’s largest tertiary education providers, grounded in kaupapa Māori and committed to whānau transformation through accessible, values led education. With a strong national presence and deep community connections, TWoA plays a vital role in shaping futures, strengthening identity, and enabling opportunity for thousands of ākonga each year.

This is an opportunity to step into a newly created director role and shape something that truly matters. As Paemanu Director Legal, Risk and Compliance, you will influence how legal, risk and compliance thinking supports and enables the aspirations of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Your voice will be trusted at the highest levels, helping to guide decision making, strengthen governance and embed an approach to risk that is both proactive and grounded in kaupapa Māori.

  • Shape system wide impact
  • Influence at highest level
  • Embed values led assurance

Ko wai koe | About You
You will bring depth of experience across legal, risk or compliance, along with the judgement and presence to operate confidently in an executive and board environment. Just as important is how you show up. Your ability to build trust, work with integrity, and engage authentically within a kaupapa Māori setting will matter as much as your technical expertise. This is a role for someone who can hold complexity with clarity, and who is motivated by contributing to something with real purpose and impact.

This is more than a leadership role. It is an opportunity to leave a lasting imprint on an organisation of national significance.
