About the Opportunity
We’re recruiting for an experienced Data Engineer / Marketing Science contractor to jump into a hands-on engagement with a growing data team. The focus is split across two priorities: strengthening production data pipelines on GCP and getting the data in shape to launch a Marketing Mix Model (MMM) (Meridian on Vertex AI).

You’ll work closely with the Head of Data & Technology, move quickly, and leave behind clean, stable pipelines and documentation the team can actually run with.

What You’ll Bring
Data engineering (GCP / BigQuery)
  • Building and stabilising multi-source pipelines in BigQuery (raw → staging → marts)
  • Bringing together data from CRMs (Salesforce / Dynamics / HubSpot), ad platforms (Google Ads / Meta), Funnel.io, and GA4
  • Owning the Funnel.io → BigQuery export setup and reliability (including partitioning and connector issues)
  • Setting up Cloud Run / GCP-native scheduling for orchestration, checks, and ongoing reliability
  • Supporting GA4 enrichment work (event-level transformation and session reconstruction)
  • Helping with PII remediation in BigQuery (hashing, CTAS approach, compatibility views)
  • Writing clear documentation: schemas, logic, runbooks, and “how to maintain this” notes
MMM (Meridian / Vertex AI)
  • Preparing channel delivery + spend data across paid media for MMM inputs
  • Pulling together external drivers (economic indicators, seasonality, competitor signals, brand search volume, etc.)
  • Building marts in BigQuery aligned to Meridian’s input requirements
  • Working with the media team to sanity-check spend numbers vs platform/billing sources
  • Getting the first model runs going on Vertex AI (setup, priors, early diagnostics)
  • Producing a usable data dictionary and model input documentation for ongoing use
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong SQL (BigQuery) and Python
  • Solid experience delivering production-grade pipelines on GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler)
  • Comfortable with tools like Funnel.io, Supermetrics, or Fivetran
  • Practical MMM experience (Meridian ideal, but similar MMM frameworks also great)
  • Confident working with GA4 exports and the BigQuery event schema
  • You can work independently, manage your own priorities, and deliver in a short contract window
  • You document as you go (not as an afterthought)
Nice to Have
  • Vertex AI or other GCP ML infrastructure experience
  • Bayesian / probabilistic modelling exposure (BSTS, CausalImpact, etc.)
  • Understanding of how paid media platform data is structured (Google Ads, Meta, programmatic)
  • Agency or consultancy background
This can be remote, with the option to work from an Auckland CBD office. You’ll have access to the GCP environment, BigQuery projects, and supporting tools, and you’ll be partnering closely with the Head of Data & Technology and a Data Analyst.
