Tribe’s Executive Search Lead, David Hammond brings a wealth of experience and insight into the Chief Executive role having himself been a local government Chief Executive with 10 years’ cumulative experience over three district and city councils in New Zealand, including Nelson City (Unitary) Council in 2017.
David has deep understanding of the local government environment and the leaders in the sector. His own experience was known for tourism expertise, introducing devolved governance models to local government, and at TCDC reduced operations costs to the lowest per property in the Waikato (as endorsed by the Taxpayer’s Union).
David has led and assisted numerous local government placements at every level including Chief Executives of councils and CCOs. He also has high expertise in the environmental planning market.
David’s sector experience includes participating on the Localism Taskgroup of LGNZ in 2019, he led the local government Tourism Councils Workgroup, developed the LGNZ Best Practice Guide to Freedom Camping, and wrote national reports on the effectiveness of Community Boards, structuring EDAs and RTOs, and evaluating all councils’. David is a former national winner of the NZ Post/SOLGM Award in 2010 for Best Project in Local Government (Te Kahui Tupua) and was also TIA Winner of Best Council Project in Support of the Tourism Industry. He is a present or past Director on four companies including two LASS companies, and understands CCO structures, agreements, and relationships extremely well.
At Tribe we believe that it is our role to provide an elected Council with the highest quality process, assessment and insight into the leaders brought forward as potential candidates. It is the role of the elected Council to probe that advice, refine the parameters and decide on the successful candidate. Tribe sees the process as a partnership to achieve success with our expertise and experience matching your understanding of your needs.
