Communications Specialist: PAS

Apply
About the Opportunity
  • Join UniMed, a member-owned health insurer supporting 135,000+ New Zealanders with health insurance and wellbeing services, driven by values of Aspire, Care and Trust.
  • This is a 10-month fixed-term opportunity based in Christchurch, supporting a major, business-critical transformation: UniMed’s Policy Administration System (PAS) migration.
  • You’ll take ownership of UniMed’s system-generated and transactional communications; the policy letters, emails, notices and triggered messages Members rely on.
  • Your focus: ensure every communication is plain-English, customer-friendly, brand-aligned, and accurate under real system conditions (rules, triggers, data outputs).
  • You’ll work across Marketing. Product, Digital, Operations, Tech/Delivery, Risk, Legal/Compliance and CX to create consistency, reduce friction and support go-live readiness.
  • You’ll build sustainable foundations such as templates, standards, governance and a communications library so future BAU changes are easier to manage and maintain.

What You’ll Bring
  • Strong background in transactional/customer communications, ideally within insurance, financial services, health, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Proven experience delivering system-driven communications (e.g., PAS/CRM/billing/document outputs) and understanding how data, triggers and business rules shape customer messaging.
  • Confidence working in complex transformation / migration programmes, managing changing requirements and multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional ability to translate policy/legal/technical content into clear, unambiguous, plain-English communications.
  • High attention to detail with an analytical mindset, comfortable with requirements baselining, version control/audit trails, and compliance sign-off.
  • Practical delivery capability across design/build/testing (UAT), including working with delivery teams on defects and readiness ahead of go-live.

What’s on Offer
  • A rare chance to play a key role in a high-impact programme that directly affects how Members experience UniMed at critical moments.
  • Work with a purpose-led, Member-first organisation where decisions are made for Members.
  • High visibility and strong cross-functional exposure across Technology, Operations, Risk/Legal, CX and Marketing.
  • Opportunity to create tangible, lasting improvements through simplification, standardisation and better customer outcomes.
  • A role that values both craft and rigour, great writing, sharp thinking, and structured delivery.
  • A supportive team culture grounded in Aspire, Care and Trust, where people are encouraged to thrive professionally and personally.
