Practice Lead

Join a Homegrown Kiwi Tech Success Story That’s Making Global Waves

This is not just a stepping-stone role; it is designed for someone with a solid foundation in people leadership - a person who has led a team of engineers (around 6–8 people) and understands how to balance delivery, performance, and team growth. You will bring maturity and confidence to your leadership style while still enjoying the hands-on experience of solving technical problems alongside your team.

About the Role

You will be leading a cross-functional squad responsible for building and evolving a key SaaS product used in thousands of cities around the world. From architecture through to production support, you will guide the full engineering lifecycle. The tech stack includes C#, Angular, Azure, microservices, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
This role is central to a product-led, engineering-first business that prioritizes scalable systems, secure architecture, and performance that doesn't compromise sustainability. You will work closely with global tech leads to ensure consistency, innovation, and alignment while delivering locally in a fast-paced Wellington-based team.

About You

You are not looking to "step up" into a leadership role; you have already been there. You have experience leading a team of engineers and understand what it takes to develop people, manage stakeholders, and build high-trust environments. At the same time, you still enjoy being close to the code and actively shaping solutions.
We are looking for someone who brings:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience (C#, Angular, Azure preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing technical teams (5+ people)
  • A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems without needing direction
  • Experience building secure, scalable SaaS platforms in cloud environments
  • A collaborative mindset and a clear, concise communication style
  • A passion for clean architecture, modern DevOps practices, and continuous improvement

Why This Business?

They are one of Aotearoa’s quiet tech success stories- founded here, scaling globally, and staying true to a values-led culture. You will be joining a purpose-driven company that genuinely empowers its people to innovate, experiment, and grow.

Perks + Benefits
  • Hybrid working (3 days in-office in central Wellington)
  • Birthday leave and long service leave
  • Generous parental leave (for primary and secondary carers)
  • $100 annual wellbeing gift
  • Funded learning and development opportunities
  • Global innovation days to fuel creativity and connection You will need New Zealand work rights and ideally be based locally.
