Senior Management Accountant

Are you ready to step into a high-impact finance role where strategic insight, stakeholder influence, and hands-on project delivery intersect?

A large, complex public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant to provide critical financial leadership and advisory support to a transformative HRIS and Payroll implementation programme.

The Opportunity:

This is not your typical management accounting role. You’ll work at the heart of a nationally significant organisation that touches the lives of every New Zealander. This 24-month fixed term opportunity places you within a dedicated programme team, where your commercial acumen and financial oversight will help shape delivery decisions and influence key stakeholders—including senior leadership and governance groups.

Reporting to the Manager of Management Accounting, you'll work across the enterprise PMO and corporate finance to ensure financial modelling, forecasting, business case development, and strategic reporting are performed to a high standard in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality financial analysis and advice to programme leadership and governance boards.
  • Drive forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial modelling across HRIS and Payroll initiatives.
  • Support business case development and cost recovery mechanisms, including automation readiness.
  • Constructively challenge assumptions and strategies to enhance financial robustness.
  • Collaborate with the EPMO and delivery teams to ensure consistent and effective financial controls.
  • Maintain and enhance the financial model as the single source of truth for reporting and forecasting.

What You Bring:
  • CA (or equivalent) with at least 5+ years’ post-qualification experience in complex environments.
  • Proven track record of working on high-value projects/programmes—ideally in the public or government sector.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with strong capability in forecasting, modelling, and scenario planning.
  • Ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders, including C-level and governance committees.
  • High proficiency in Excel; Power BI or other BI tools an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying business improvement opportunities and supporting organisational change.
  • Comfortable working across multiple functions with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Why You Should Apply:
  • Work in a high-trust, values-driven public sector environment
  • Gain exposure to executive-level decision-making
  • Help enable a major workforce transformation that directly supports public safety and wellbeing
  • Collaborate with a passionate and professional team dedicated to excellence

This is a chance to be part of something meaningful, using your financial expertise to help drive strategic outcomes that matter at a national level.
