Senior Management Accountant

My client is after a capable and confident Management Accountant to step into a high-impact role supporting financial planning and decision-making across the organisation. This fixed-term opportunity is based in Wellington and offers the chance to be part of a finance transformation initiative within a well-regarded public sector organisation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, delivering meaningful financial insights, and helping shape strategic outcomes—especially as the organisation prepares to implement a new Financial Management Information System (FMIS).

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you’ll work closely with business managers and senior leadership to:

  • Lead the annual planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful management reporting
  • Provide expert financial advice to support key initiatives and strategic decisions
  • Coach and support managers in building their financial capability
  • Ensure financial input is embedded into integrated business planning processes

You’ll also take ownership of financial training materials, support risk management efforts, and promote a strong culture of financial accountability throughout the organisation.

What my client is looking for:

You’ll be a confident communicator and natural relationship builder with the ability to make finance relevant to non-financial stakeholders. Ideally, you will have:
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Finance or Business Partner
  • Strong capability in budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • A sound understanding of financial systems, public sector reporting, and processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and (ideally) CA or equivalent professional membership
Experience within a Crown Entity or similar public sector environment will be a strong advantage, along with knowledge of New Zealand’s accounting standards and legislative context.

What’s on offer:
  • Involvement in a future-focused finance transformation programme
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture
  • Flexible working options
  • A purpose-driven role contributing to outcomes that matter for Aotearoa

If you’re looking for a meaningful role in a well-aligned and progressive organisation, and you’re passionate about making financials work for the bigger picture—this could be the one.
