In one of my speaking engagements, one of the audience members came up to me and told me about his situation. His name is Graeme, who is now my business partner. I was absolutely amazed by his compassion for the disadvantaged and disabled community.
He actually adopted four children, all of whom have a disability. Three in particular have a cocktail of mental disabilities such as foetal alcohol, ADHD, epilepsy, and some other medical terms I can’t even pronounce.
Because we had been talking previously about my young people not being sure what to do as they get older, when they leave school at 21. And he said, “Let’s create a cookie business.” So here we are today at The Cookie Project.
We always see ourselves as a platform to upskill our bakers and provide employment pathways to mainstream employment, whether it’s hospitality, F&B, the hotel business, or restaurants and cafes. Hopefully, by the end of the year, when we have our own kitchen, we hope to employ at least 100 people. For us, that would just be incredible.
