  • The Black Foils, New Zealand SailGP Team, are led by renowned sailing duo Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. Currently leaders on the Season 4 Leaderboard, the Black Foils proudly represent Aotearoa on the global stage. The team is driven by the mission to race for a healthy ocean and use the platform of SailGP to communicate the importance of a healthy ocean for a healthy future, in partnership with Live Ocean Foundation.
 
About the Role: 
  • The “Senior Manager, New Zealand Marketing and Communications” will be SailGP’s marketing and communications lead in New Zealand. In coordination with SailGP’s global and regional team, the individual will promote the league, the local team and the local event, raising awareness for and interest in SailGP, as well as its events, athletes, leadership and key initiatives.
  • We require experience in designing and managing national public relations, marketing and digital campaigns across channels and platforms with ability to manage channel experts (e.g. PR, Digital).
  • You will be a part of a small local team based in stunning offices in Auckland, New Zealand, working with teams around the world, offering a diverse and empowering workplace and a fantastic, values driven team. SailGP offers 1-2 days working from home.
  • This is a strategic and hands-on role with a level of commitment required for international travel.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all marketing and communications relating to SailGP in the New Zealand market. This includes acting as the main contact for SailGP in the market for local, national and international media.
  • Create and execute strategic, impactful and locally relevant marketing and communications strategies for SailGP to promote the League, Team and the New Zealand Sail Grand Prix.
  • Drive brand growth and fan awareness in New Zealand across three key areas:
  1. The SailGP global brand, alongside global partners.
  2. New Zealand SailGP Team, racing in the global championship.
  3. The New Zealand Sail Grand Prix, hosted in New Zealand on an annual basis.
  • Travel to SailGP events, serving in a press officer role for New Zealand Team
  • Work in collaboration with the Social Media Manager, APAC, to create and execute strategic digital content plans for SailGP to promote the League, Team and the New Zealand Sail Grand Prix.
  • Manage the creation of all external communications and marketing materials relating to the New Zealand Team and event.
  • Ensure community communications are delivered effectively to deliver support and advocacy, whilst promoting the SailGP values.
  • Oversee and manage local marketing and communications agencies and additional resources in the market to meet the overall objectives.
  • Manage the delivery of the promotional plan including media buying and coordinate marketing spend.
  • Coordinate with SailGP global communications, marketing and digital media teams to amplify all SailGP global announcements in the market.
  • Provide expert counsel to team leaders and athletes in all areas of communications. This includes the management of crisis communications and reputational issues in the market.
  • Collaborate with key commercial partners and stakeholders to ensure marketing and communications deliverables and objectives are achieved.
  • Manage event and team marcomms budgets, operating with a financially responsible mindset.
  • Manage the delivery and track progress against KPIS across marketing and communications for the team and event.

  • Extremely strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Entrepreneurial and passionate with a desire to exceed expectations.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, comfortable working irregular hours with global teams, events and media.
  • Experience in external communications including crisis communications management preferred.
