About the Role:

In brief, you will lead and manage the Commercial Services team as well as lead, support and advise on commercial activities across various Modes. This role and the Commercial Services team supports procurement initiatives and Revenue and operational requirements, working with internal business stakeholders and Project teams on all aspects of commercial strategy development and delivery. Major focus areas include Procurement and operational requirements within the various Programmes and initiatives. A key aspect of the role is to also contribute to the development and knowledge share of commercial best practices, working with other colleagues and teams, as part of the wider Centre of Excellence.

About You:
 

  • You will probably have a tertiary degree qualification in commerce, law, management, or related discipline.
  • You’ll have many years’ experience in a commercial advisory and management, professional services and / or strategic business management role in government or private sector, with accountability for commercial outcomes and a focus on project delivery.
  • Previous procurement and project management experience
  • An understanding and appreciation of the workings and functions of local government Key Skills
  • Ability to lead small specialist team working predominantly in a matrix environment.
  • Driven to achieve outcomes, works very well in teams and empowers others.
  • Highly organised – plans and prioritises well and manages time to focus self and others.
  • Able to sustain a high level of energy and positivity during pressure.
  • Supports team growth and development through opportunities, actions and attitude. 
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to understand complex commercial issues and complex services and capital contracts
  • Works well with other teams within group and across organisations
  • Proven experience in preparation of investment and Business cases and Commercial and financial analysis
  • Understands well, NZ contracting forms
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook
