NZ Government Invested in Longterm Digital Transformation

Tribe Group Meeting

The Digital Technologies Industry Transformation Plan, released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, highlights the significant contribution of the digital technologies sector to the New Zealand economy, amounting to $7 billion in 2021. The plan also emphasises a growth strategy that necessitates immediate access to local and overseas talent. It outlines a comprehensive investment in initiatives across 10 areas of action to enhance the skills and talent pipeline, address existing gaps and challenges, and foster the expected growth of jobs in the digital technologies sector from 43,750 in 2022 to over 58,000 in 2030. It is evident that the digital industries in New Zealand are poised for continued expansion and will continue to play a pivotal role in the country's economy.

Looking ahead to 2024, New Zealand can anticipate sustained demand for digital transformation, underscoring the ongoing growth and significance of the digital industries in the country.

To effectively plan for hiring the best talent in digital transformation, businesses can take several proactive steps.

  • Acknowledge the challenges faced by the industry in terms of the skills and talent pipeline, such as a lack of diversity and inclusion, and an overreliance on the immigration system.
  • Businesses can work to address these challenges by investing in initiatives that enhance the skills and talent pipeline, including employment action plans and strategies for underrepresented groups.
  • Partnering with recruitment agencies specialising in technology, transformation, and digital roles can assist businesses in finding and hiring the best talent for their digital transformation needs.
  • Staying on top of the latest developments in the digital industries and emerging technologies, as well as investing in training and upskilling the existing workforce, will enable businesses to meet the demands of digital transformation and remain competitive in the growing digital industries in New Zealand.
