First Table appoints former Uber and Deliveroo leader Alex Cappy as Chief Executive Officer

Tribe Executive is delighted to share the appointment of Alex Cappy as Chief Executive Officer of First Table, supporting the company’s next phase of international growth, platform expansion, and long-term value creation.

First Table, New Zealand’s leading hospitality technology and dining platform, connects diners with restaurants through a unique model that fills off-peak tables while rewarding diners with half-price food. With a strong presence in New Zealand and growing operations in Australia and the United Kingdom, the business is well-positioned for continued international expansion.

Alex Cappy is a highly accomplished executive with more than 15 years’ experience leading high-growth, tech-enabled and marketplace businesses across Europe, the United States, and New Zealand. She brings deep expertise in scaling complex platforms, driving commercial performance, and building high-performing teams in fast-paced, competitive environments.

Cappy has held senior leadership roles at globally recognised organisations, including Uber and Deliveroo, and most recently served as CEO of Basis, where she led the business from R&D through to product launch, securing strong pre-launch revenue and investment. Prior to this, as CEO of Hubs, she delivered significant year-on-year revenue growth while improving profitability and leading the business through a successful acquisition.

Known for her strong commercial acumen, data-driven decision making, and people-first leadership style, Cappy brings a proven ability to scale businesses, optimise marketplace dynamics, and deliver sustainable growth.

Her appointment underscores First Table’s ambition to further cement its position as a leading global dining marketplace and commitment to continue innovating within the hospitality technology sector.

Reflecting on her appointment, Cappy said:

"First Table has built a powerful marketplace that solves a real problem for both diners and restaurants. I see a significant opportunity to scale this model internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom, and to further strengthen the platform through product and operational excellence."

Founder and transitioning CEO, Mat Weir, built First Table from a one-man startup into a global dining platform, remains deeply involved in the business, now with a focus on AI and what comes next. Reflecting on the appointment, Mat Weir said:

“Cappy is an exceptional operator with deep experience scaling complex, global marketplaces. As First Table enters its next phase of growth, particularly in the United Kingdom, this is the right time to bring in a CEO with that capability.”

Tribe Executive and Cameron King congratulate Cappy on her appointment and wish her every success in her new role. We are proud to have partnered with First Table on this important leadership appointment.
