About the Opportunity

Property Brokers is New Zealand’s largest family-owned provincial real estate company, with around 1,000 people across more than 90 locations and a full service offering spanning residential, lifestyle, rural, commercial and property management.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the COO will provide enterprise level operating leadership across the central organisation, leading a team of senior leaders and a 73-person support centre while partnering closely with Property Brokers’ regional leadership network.

This is not a conventional corporate COO role. Property Brokers is a successful, entrepreneurial and relationship led business where the central team exists to enable the regions. The opportunity is to bring greater management discipline, commercial rigour and execution capability while preserving the culture and energy that underpin the business.

Key priorities will include:
  • Lead a high performing central leadership team, creating clarity and accountability
  • Translate strategy into practical plans and drive consistent execution
  • Simplify processes, systems and ways of working to improve performance
  • Accelerate digital, marketing and organisational initiatives
  • Identify new growth opportunities and potential revenue streams
  • Build the organisational capability required for the next phase of growth

What You’ll Bring
  • Proven senior executive experience in a COO, CEO, General Management or comparable enterprise leadership role
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience leading multiple functions
  • A track record of translating strategy into execution and improving performance
  • Experience leading transformation, business improvement and growth initiatives
  • Exceptional people leadership, building trust, accountability and high performance
  • Strategic thinker with a practical, action oriented approach
  • Comfortable in decentralised, multi-site, sales or service-led environments where influence matters
  • Intellectually agile, low ego and confident to challenge constructively
  • Genuine affinity with provincial and regional New Zealand and its communities
  • Real Estate experience is not essential; Property Brokers is open to outstanding leaders from other sectors

What’s on Offer
  • CEO-calibre leadership mandate within one of New Zealand’s most successful privately owned businesses
  • Direct partnership with the Managing Director and significant influence across the wider organisation
  • Lead a capable existing team and materially increase the pace and volume of organisational delivery
  • Opportunity to shape three-to-five-year strategy, unlock new commercial opportunities and expand the business beyond its existing platform
  • Genuine scope for the role to evolve as trust, performance and the future leadership structure develop
  • Join a distinctive New Zealand business with strong regional roots, an entrepreneurial culture and substantial unrealised growth potential

Property Brokers already has the people, infrastructure, market presence and platform to grow considerably. The opportunity is not to fix a broken business, but to help a successful organisation become capable of achieving significantly more.
