Phoenix Recycling Group appoints new GM of Sales and Business Development

John Buchanan brings over two decades of senior leadership experience across the energy, FMCG, and agency sectors. Most recently, he successfully ran his own outdoor solutions business, Shade Design, overseeing design, manufacturing, installation, and customer engagement across Auckland.

Prior to this, John held multiple senior leadership roles at Z Energy, including Commercial Sales Manager – North and National Sales Manager – Mini Tankers. In these positions, he was responsible for national P&L delivery, managing complex commercial agreements, and leading large sales teams. His achievements included steering national fuel supply agreements through the disruption of Covid, delivering consistent EBITDA results, driving double-digit growth, and lifting team engagement scores from 48% to 83%.

Earlier in his career, John held senior sales and marketing roles with Lion Nathan and Hypermedia, where he built expertise in trade marketing, sponsorship activation, and customer experience. A former professional rugby player in New Zealand, Japan, and Italy, John is recognised for his pragmatic, strategic, and results-driven leadership style.
