We’re certainly seeing a diversification in what employers are seeking from their graduates. The traditional straight bachelor’s degree with an accounting major as a single focus is no longer always enough. More employers are looking for diversified academic studies - for example, an accounting major combined with something else. In some cases, employers are even looking at engineering qualifications, marketing, or management. There’s much more of a “mix-and-match” approach to the skills and qualifications they want.

So, we’re moving away from just traditional accounting toward more of a combination. My advice would be to keep your options open and remain broad-minded about what that might look like. The world of accounting is changing, the skills required are changing, and with that comes a huge amount of opportunity. There’s a wide range of different roles, even some that don’t yet exist.

My advice is to stay positive, be confident, and recognize that there is a great future ahead with plenty of opportunity.
