About the Role
We’re looking for a Chartered Accountant to lead our small, hands-on Finance function.
Reporting to the Assistant City Missioner – Corporate Services, you’ll lead a team of two and take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of Finance across the Mission.
This is an operational, hands-on finance leadership role. You’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail, preparing a full set of accounts, understanding NZ tax and statutory requirements, supporting budgets and forecasts, and coordinating the annual audit.
What You’ll be Doing

Lead and support a Finance team of two

Prepare monthly reporting and a full set of financial accounts

Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis

Coordinate the annual audit and work with external auditors

Ensure compliance with NZ accounting standards, tax and statutory requirements

Oversee payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end

Provide practical financial advice to managers and budget holders

Strengthen financial controls, processes and systems

Support continuous improvement across the Finance function
What You’ll Bring

CA ANZ qualification (or equivalent) – essential
-
Strong NZ tax and accounting knowledge

Proven ability to prepare a full set of financial accounts

Financial reporting and management accounting experience

Budgeting and forecasting experience

A sound understanding of the annual audit process

Strong Excel and financial systems capability
-
Experience leading, supervising or coordinating a small team

A hands-on, practical approach and strong attention to detail

The ability to build trusted relationships across an organisation
Not-for-profit experience would be useful, but it’s not essential. Technical accounting capability, NZ tax knowledge and the ability to roll up your sleeves are.
