Technical Lead

Apply
About the Opportunity
The best platforms feel effortless to the people using them. Making that happen takes a lot of work.
Our client is a modern, product-led software business building a global B2B platform. It connects people, partners and operators at scale, and the customer experience has to be seamless every time. They’re looking for a Technical Lead who enjoys both sides of the job: shipping great software and helping great engineers grow.

The Role
You’ll lead a small, capable team of around five engineers. Your job is to create an environment where people do their best work. That means clear standards, steady delivery habits, honest feedback loops, and a calm, pragmatic approach when problems come up.
You’ll report to an Engineering Manager who has done this role before. You’ll get real support and practical mentoring from someone who knows the job from experience. You’ll also work alongside other Technical Leads to shape how engineering practice develops as the product grows.
Why it’s worth your time
  • Build and ship, with purpose. The product mindset is strong, the work matters, and the platform is complex in the interesting way.
  • Quality without the ceremony. The team cares about reliability, quality and continuous improvement, but doesn’t over-engineer or get precious about it.
  • High trust, cloud-first, collaborative. If you work best where people are trusted to do good work, you’ll likely feel at home.
What you’ll be Doing
  • Owning technical delivery from design through to production, keeping implementation aligned with the intended architecture
  • Leading and developing engineers through coaching, development plans, performance conversations and everyday mentoring
  • Building consistency across the team in ways of working, standards, technical direction and delivery
  • Championing a “quality is everyone’s job” culture, with solid automated testing and dev-led QA
  • Partnering with product, QA and fellow Technical Leads to keep work visible, raise risks early and keep stakeholders aligned
  • Improving the system and the process over time, rather than just shipping features and moving on
What You’ll Bring
This role suits either a Senior Engineer ready for their first leadership step or an experienced Technical Lead who’s at that point in their role where they’re ready for a brand new challenge!
Technical
  • Solid commercial experience with AWS (certification is a bonus, not a requirement)
  • Modern engineering skills across React, TypeScript and Node, or close equivalents
  • Integration experience, such as third-party APIs, SaaS tools, identity and auth patterns, partner integrations and subscription flows
  • A track record of shipping software end to end into production
Domain experience that translates well
  • B2B SaaS, such as multi-tenant platforms, enterprise customers, partner ecosystems, subscription models or marketplaces
  • Building for global customers, where reliability, scale and operational maturity matter
How you lead
  • You enjoy helping engineers grow and know how to bring out the best in people
  • You’re structured and consistent, with a pragmatic approach to process and delivery
  • You communicate clearly, bring people with you, and raise risks early rather than late
The Package
  • Permanent role, based in Auckland CBD
