General Manager - Wine
ExecutivePermanentMarlborough Region

General Manager - Wine

About the Opportunity The foundations are in place. Award winning brands in Tohu and Kono. Established distribution at home and across international markets. An owner that thinks in generations and backs long-term growth. What’s needed now is the leader to turn that platform into the next chapter of profitable growth. Kono is the wine business of Wakatū Incorporation, a successful Māori organisation based in Te Tauihu and guided by Te Pae Tawhiti, its 500-year plan. Tohu, founded in 1998, was the world’s first Māori-owned wine company. As General Manager - Wine, you’ll report to the Te Pae Tauhokohoko Commercial board and own the business end to end, from vineyard to glass to global markets. Set the growth strategy: which markets to deepen, where to expand and how to get there profitably Accelerate export growth while building domestic share and margin Sharpen the positioning of Tohu and Kono so their story wins in a crowded category Lead a capable team across winemaking, sales, marketing and finance to deliver the plan Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across vineyards, winery and supply chain Keep sustainability, health and safety, and Māori values at the heart of how the business grows What You’ll Bring You’ve grown a business, a brand or a market before, and you know what it takes to do it again. You might come from wine, or from FMCG or another export-led sector and be ready to bring that experience to a business with real purpose. Senior commercial leadership experience with full P&L accountability A track record of growing export revenue, brands or new markets Experience setting strategy and seeing it through to results The ability to lead cross-functional teams and build a high performing culture Confidence working with a board and a wide range of stakeholders A genuine connection to, or real appetite to grow in, te ao Māori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi Wine production knowledge and established networks in key wine markets will help, but they aren’t deal breakers for the right leader. What’s on Offer A clear mandate and board backing to grow Real autonomy from vineyard to global market Brands with provenance and a story competitors can’t copy An owner that measures success in generations, not quarters Life in Te Tauihu, with vineyards, the Marlborough Sounds and the outdoors on your doorstep If you’re ready to lead the next chapter of growth for a business with 500 years in mind, we’d love to talk. Next Steps? To keep things simple, we ask that all applications are submitted through this advert. We’ll review applications as they come in and be in touch. For any questions give Cameron King a call on 0220731320 and quote Job ID: 18380 for a confidential chat.
